Awaji Day Trip with Friends

 

 

We went on a day trip with friends to Awaji Island. We have visited the island twice before but hadn't been to this area. We got around by a free shuttle to different spots. Our first stop was to ride a Ferris wheel that we had seen from a distance but never got on before. The other spot was Hello Kitty Smile, where you can meet Hello Kitty. 

 

 

 

We ate lunch at Awaji Chef's Garden. There were colorful shipping containers repurposed as restaurants. There was so much delicious food to pick from. We ended up going with  kaisen-donburi (having already had Shine Muscat [grape] ice cream and lemon sherbet drink for snacks earlier in the morning). At one stop later in the day they had a small plastic bag that you were free to fill with as many onions as you could to take home! Awaji grows a lot of onions so we were glad to be able to take the local specialty home. At the end of the day we returned to the port by ferry and ate akashiyaki (fried dough balls with octopus) at the fish market before catching a train back to Himeji.
