Taiyo Park

Taiyo Park is a local attraction located a ways northwest of where we live in Himeji. It has two main areas. The first and larger of the two has sculptures and replicas of famous landmarks from around the world like France, the United States, Mexico, Easter Island, Egypt, China, Micronesia, Polynesia, Japan, and Germany. Some of the statues are a bit hard to see because of overgrown plants. 

     

The park was created by a philanthropist who wanted to help people in need. He did so by creating this park that has an on-site nursing home for people with disabilities. They are free to stroll around lunchtime and in a way get to travel around the world. The park increases awareness, and provides employment for the residents. 

 

The second main area is a newer addition and a replica of Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany. The castle does not have replicas of world attractions, and instead it is meant to try to increase the number of younger people visiting by having several floors of 3D trick-art to take pictures of and post on social media. 

 

We got there by taking a bus from Himeji Station. In general, it is definitely possible to reach the park by bus, but it requires a bit of planning. Some buses that pass near the park are are #35, #36, #40 or #43, but check the routes as they may change. I would also recommend taking a picture of the bus stop schedule upon arrival as sometimes there are changes that aren't reflected on Google Maps for when you are ready to head back to Himeji. They do have a phone in their souvenir shop to call a taxi if you prefer not to take a bus back, and of course having a car is probably the easiest option if you want to get to the park without having to do much planning.
