Traveling to Japan

We were not very good at packing up our things early. We basically had until the very last minute to get everything done. We officially moved out of our apartment on Friday. Luckily, we were able to move all of our things back to our parents' for storage. Once we had taken care of moving out we had to focus on finishing packing on Saturday since our flight was going to be on Sunday! It's quiet difficult to know what to pack when you are leaving for a year. Some how we managed to pack everything into 3 suitcases, 2 carry-ons, and 2 backpacks for the both of us. One thing I definitely could not forget to pack was some Tajín and chili-powder candy.

Our Sunday started at 3:30am to wake up and get ready to leave for the airport. We were meeting with the other members of my program at 5:15am and our flight was leaving for Seattle at 7:20am. From Seattle we had an hour-and-a-half layover and then an 11-hour flight! Both of our flights went well and we got two meals and even Ben & Jerry's ice cream on our longer flight.

Here's a picture of Blake with our luggage at Kansai International Airport.

Once we arrived in Japan we still had a two-hour bus ride from the airport to Himeji city. Overall, it was a long day of travel but everything went as smoothly as possible with a bit of adjustment to the 16-hour time difference.
