The National Museum of Art, Osaka and Tenmangu Shrine

 

 

The National Museum of Art, Osaka has a special exhibition with 140 Mexican artifacts from from Mayan, Aztecan, and Teotihuacan cultures! We had actually seen the "Teotihuacan: City of Water, City of Fire" exhibit in the Phoenix Art Museum a few years ago. Now we got to see some of those same artifacts here in Japan, as well as quite a few new ones! The gift shop had a few Mexican items and I was able to buy some masa (corn flour) to make corn tortillas here!

After the museum, we visited Osaka Tenmangu Shrine. It has had various fires throughout the years, and the current building is from 1845. Many students visit this shrine since the deity at this shrine is Sugawara Michizane, the deity for academic success.
